Ons sociale leven staat op een laag pitje, zo kunnen onze vrienden en familie alvast wennen denken we. Aan de andere kant wil je zo graag nog allemaal leuke dingen met ze doen. Is de stress toegeslagen? Ach niet geheel.. we hebben hier en daar stressmomenten maar we maken lange dagen en doen eigenlijk niks anders dan voorbereiden met veel plezier. Aan de ene kant kunnen we niet meer wachten om te gaan, aan de andere kant overheerst bij ons beiden ook een apart gevoel. We realiseren ons ineens dat we niet zomaar een paar maandjes gaan backpacken maar 2,5 jaar lang lief en leed achter laten, dit zal niet makkelijk worden maar dat wisten we natuurlijk. Evengoed, 28 december is het zover en zullen wij samen met onze documentaire producent (New-Earth Films) in het vliegtuig naar Curacao stappen om daar voor het eerst onze Pegasus te zien. De laatste betaling heeft gisteravond plaatsgevonden en vanaf volgende week is ze definitief van ons! Huidige eigenaren Michiel en Marije wonen nu nog op de Pegasus en leggen haar volgende week in een bewaakte Marina op Curacao. Na 1,5 jaar zeilen vliegen zij de 30e november terug naar Nederland. Het is echt super fijn hoe Michiel en Marije ons hebben geholpen met gegevens en maten etc. doorgeven, nogmaals dank hiervoor luitjes!
We zullen zo kort mogelijk samen proberen te vatten waarom wij het zo druk hebben de laatste tijd. Gisteren hebben wij een pallet met materialen voor de boot en privéspullen zoals dekbedden en boeken naar de Rotterdamse haven gebracht. Nu maar hopen dat hij aankomt! Ook hebben wij elke week medische trainingen in het UMC door trauma chirurg Mike, hier leren we hechten, breuken zetten, met verdrinking omgaan etc. Mike, bedankt voor de duidelijke trainingen! Verder beginnen de safety trainingen bij het Nova College in Ijmuiden over een week. De uitnodigingen voor ons eindfeest op 24 dec. in het Boterhuis in Delft zijn er inmiddels uit. Thijs, Kim en Geert: dank dat jullie ons feest organiseren! 
De samenwerking met het WWF is nu ook officieel. Dit is de derde en laatste projectpartner en we zullen enkele projecten van het WWF oceaanprogramma gaan bezoeken tijdens de reis. Het voorbereiden van de gehele reis kost uiteraard ook veel tijd. Website bijhouden, contracten en afspraken met sponsors en media, financieel alles op orde hebben, Medisch alles in kaart hebben, het loopt lekker door. Arjen werkt inmiddels nog maar 1 dag in de week voor NHTV en Florian heeft volgende week zijn laatste dagen bij Navingo. Het zijn gekke momenten maar wel fijn aangezien we alle tijd hard nodig hebben. Florian woont overigens weer gezellig bij zijn ouders aangezien hij zijn huis heeft verkocht. Arjen leeft uit zijn tas. 
Ons project is inmiddels zo ontzettend groot aan het worden dat de kosten de pan uit rijzen. Sponsors zijn dan ook meer dan noodzakelijk en zeer welkom, we zijn dan ook meer dan blij met onze huidige en nieuwe sponsors. Deze zijn op de website bij Thanks te vinden (sponsors en supporters). Our social lives are on the back-burner, so our friends and family can start getting used to it already. On the other hand, you so badly want to do nice things with them. Has the stress hit us? Not entirely… Now and then we have a stressy time, but we are working long days and are actually doing nothing but preparations – and enjoying it. On the one hand, we can’t wait to go, but on the other hand, we both feel a little strange. Suddenly we’ve realised that we won’t just be away backpacking for a few months, but that we’ll be leaving behind all our family and friends for two and a half years! It won’t be easy – but then we knew that already, of course. Anyway, the 28th of December is D-day, when we’ll be flying to Curaçao with our documentary producer (New-Earth Films) to see the Pegasus for the first time. The last instalment was paid last night, and from next week, she will be all ours! The present owners, Michiel and Marije, are still living on the Pegasus, and will be mooring her in a guarded marina in Curaçao next week. After 1.5 years of sailing, they’ll be flying back to the Netherlands on the 30th of November. It’s been really great how Michiel and Marije have helped by passing on information and measurements etc. – thanks again, people!
We’ll try to summarise as shortly as possible why we have been so busy in the last while. Yesterday, we took a pallet of equipment for the boat and private stuff like duvets and books to the Rotterdam harbour. Now we can just hope they’ll arrive! We’ve also been receiving medical training from trauma surgeon Mike at the Utrecht Medical Center every week. There, we learned to do stitches, set fractures, deal with drowning etc. Mike, thank you for the clear classes! Also, the safety course will start at the Nova College in IJmuiden in a week’s time. The invitations for our going-away party on 24 December in the Boterhuis in Delft have now been sent out. Thijs, Kim and Geert: thank you for organising our party! The collaboration with the WWF is also official now. They are the third and last project partner, and we will visit a number of projects by the WWF ocean programme during the journey. Preparing for the whole thing takes a lot of time: keeping the website up to date, contracts with sponsors and the media, getting all the financial aspects in order, making sure all the medical stuff is covered – so it goes on. Arjen is now working just one day a week for NHTV, and Florian’s last days at Navingo will be next week. These are crazy times, but also good times, as we need every minute we can get. Florian is now living with his parents, seeing as he has sold his house. Arjen is living from a suitcase. Our project is getting so incredibly big that the costs are shooting through the roof. Sponsors are therefore more than necessary, and most welcome, so we are more than happy with our current sponsors and new ones.
